Footage from Two Disturbing Hazing Rituals Made Public This Week

|

In the span of 24 hours, reports of two completely separate hazing incidents came to light—both of which were caught on video.

At the University of Alabama, several students were charged with fraternity hazing this week after court documents unveiled footage from hazing incidents from August 25 and 28, NBC News reported. In one of the videos, pledges were forced to their hands and knees while Pi Kappa Phi fraternity members poured beer on them, yelled at them, and threw objects at them as part of the fraternity’s “Rules Night.” More footage showed a member physically assaulting a pledge. As of today, one of the pledges has filed charges against the violent hazing perpetrators.

Meanwhile, over 1,000 miles away at Syracuse University, Fox News reported social media footage of a hazing ritual went viral, leading to the suspension of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. The videos recorded two people intentionally vomiting on two others lying on the ground. The vile incident bears striking resemblance to a hazing ritual that occurred at the University of Miami last year.

Hazing Season Has Begun, Unfortunately

October marks the start of a new hazing season. Historically, most hazing incidents occur in this month. Hazing is a crime in most states, and despite ongoing efforts to stop it, these absurd rituals continue. It never ends, but neither does our commitment to help the victims of hazing with meaningful recoveries for what has happened to them. Our hazing lawyers have been at the forefront of holding anyone who hazes accountable and helping hazing victims for 30 years. We continue to do so and will never relent in trying to stop it.

If it happens to someone in your family, we can help.
