Seeking Justice for a Tragic Loss on a Jobsite

We recently began investigating a heartbreaking wrongful death case involving a young man who lost his life while working on a roadway repair project. He was struck and killed by a truck on the jobsite, and our investigation has uncovered serious safety lapses:

  • The truck’s backup camera was not functioning.
  • The construction company failed to enforce its safety policies and use spotters when workers were within 100 feet of vehicles.
  • The construction company failed to implement a traffic control plan on the site to ensure vehicles were not close to workers on foot.

This preventable tragedy has devastated the decedent’s family, who put their trust in us to seek justice and hold those responsible accountable.

Other Jobsites Share Similar Safety Violations

Companies are legally obligated to enforce workplace safety standards, but they’ll cut corners if they’re not held accountable. OSHA reported 5,283 fatal work injuries in 2023, and one of the most frequently violated standards in these fatalities involved powered industrial trucks like the one in our case. What happened to this young man clearly resulted from an industry-wide problem. We are committed to uncovering the truth about his accident, ensuring no other family endures a loss like this.

Under Florida law, when workers are injured or killed on the job, the victims are often only able to recover workers' compensation benefits. Unfortunately, those benefits are woefully inadequate for those who are catastrophically injured or killed on the job. Victims must consult with attorneys experienced with these cases to get what they need.

In each case we represent someone injured or killed on the job, our firm commits itself to workplace safety; through our representation and advocacy, our firm has been able to affect broad change while recovering what our clients need. We are routinely retained by victims and other attorneys to investigate workplace accidents, ensuring victims and their families get full compensation—often outside and in addition to workers' compensation benefits.
